Islamic religious law calls for burial of the body as soon as possible, preceded by a simple ceremony involving bathing and shrouding (Kafan) the body, followed by salah (Prayer, Namaz-e-Janazah). Kafan (shroud) is an Urdu word which refers to a length of cloth or an enveloping garment in which a dead body is wrapped for burial. The Kafans of a male and a female deceased person differ only in the number of pieces of cloth used and their arrangement around the body.
